Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure announced that Andrew Stafford has been appointed Chairman of the Technical Committee for the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF). His three-year term begins in the final quarter of 2025.
SGMF is the maritime sector’s leading authority on the safe use of gaseous and low-carbon fuels. It brings together shipowners, fuel suppliers, port operators, equipment manufacturers, and classification societies to set safety guidance and operational best practices. The organization plays a key role in enabling the industry’s safe decarbonization.
Andrew Stafford has served on the SGMF Technical Committee for eight years. His new role also includes a seat on the executive committee, which oversees the society’s strategic direction and industry standards.
Stephen Gallagher, Senior Technical Advisor at SGMF, said: “Andrew has led working groups and shared knowledge that shapes our guidance. His expertise and ability to engage the full value chain will be invaluable as we develop fact-based safety standards.”
Richard Hepworth, Trelleborg Marine and Infrastructure President, added: “Andrew’s appointment highlights his leadership and Trelleborg’s commitment to advancing cleaner, safer marine fuels. We are proud to help shape best practices across the industry.”
Andrew recently led the Methanol Bunkering Guidelines Working Group, collaborating with 18 organizations to publish the first global safety standards for methanol bunkering operations. These guidelines provide practical, consistent rules for safe fuel handling.
Trelleborg will host the SGMF Technical Committee meeting and members forum in Dubai in 2026, further supporting industry collaboration and clean fuel adoption.
