Maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz plunged by almost 60% at the start of the week, underscoring how a mix of electronic warfare, political brinkmanship and spiralling insurance costs is reshaping the Persian Gulf’s lifeline waterway.
According to the U.K-based Joint Maritime Information Centre, only 91 vessels of more than 1,000 gross tonnes transited the strait on 23 June 49 eastbound and 42 westbound down from a June daily average of 114.
