Mazatlán’s Terminal Marítima de Mazatlán (Tmaz) marked a major milestone this week, successfully unloading more than 1,190 tons of wind turbine components from China.
The heavy-lift operation took place aboard the ML FRAGATA and involved 173 oversized steel structures destined for Mexico’s electricity sector. Some of the assembly parts alone weighed over 36 tons.
“This operation proves our capability to handle complex, oversized cargo while supporting key national projects,” said Francisco Quintana Schnettler, Director of Operations at Tmaz. “We ensured safety, cargo care, and strong productivity throughout.”
Handling such massive structures wasn’t easy. The team had to plan carefully ahead of the vessel’s arrival, with constant adjustments during unloading shifts. Specialized equipment like mobile harbor cranes (MHC), ship cranes with custom lifting gear, reach stackers, and forklifts were all put to work.
The operation also required more than 5,500 square meters of space for maneuvering and storage.
Tmaz, part of Hanseatic Global Terminals, continues to position itself as a key logistics hub for Mexico’s growing energy and infrastructure needs.
