Tideworks Technology introduces simulated training tool for tractor drivers at Panama’s terminal

Tideworks Technology, a full-service provider of terminal operating system (TOS) solutions, announced the successful installation of its newest product DriverSIM at Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) in Panama.

DriverSIM by Tideworks is a simulated additional training tool for terminal yard tractor (UTR) drivers, which uses virtual reality technology to enable terminals to transition part of their equipment training into a virtual environment.

Tideworks said the new tool enhances efficiency, cost savings and safety for terminal operators and drivers by reducing equipment use and emissions across their terminal yards.

To create the new solution, support beta testing, and roll out the initial deployment of the new product, Tideworks worked closely with MIT. The terminal environment, operators, and typical scenarios were taken into account as Tideworks tailored the training throughout the development process.

To create a solution that offers a multi-user training environment so that drivers can interact in a secure and replicated yard space before they enter the terminal, the teams closely analysed customer input and product performance.

In May 2023, DriverSIM by Tideworks went operational at MIT. The public has access to the solution from June 2023.

“Tideworks was excited about the opportunity to create a new product with a long-term partner like MIT,” stated Thomas Rucker, president of Tideworks Technology.
