The Bahamas re-elected to IMO Council

The Bahamas has been re-elected to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council in Category C. The country secured 73% of the vote in a highly competitive election.

This result reflects strong confidence from IMO Member States. It confirms trust in The Bahamas’ role in shaping international maritime regulation. It also highlights the country’s commitment to fair, effective decision-making in the global shipping industry.

The re-election ensures The Bahamas will continue to represent Small Island Developing States (SIDS). It will also promote key priorities such as safety, maritime security, environmental protection, seafarer welfare and innovation.

The Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) praised the work of its Maritime Affairs Department. The team provides leadership and technical expertise across IMO bodies. Their contributions strengthen The Bahamas’ reputation within the Organisation.

The BMA also acknowledged support from its wider team. It highlighted the role of the Bahamas Permanent Representative to the IMO and other national agencies. Together, they uphold high regulatory standards.

This result marks an important milestone for the country. It allows The Bahamas to keep shaping the future of global shipping.
