Thai tanker explodes, seafarer killed and three more injured

The Thai-flagged product tanker, Smooth Sea 2, exploded when it was ready to depart a terminal in Bangkok, Thailand. The explosion led to the death of a seafarer, another man has suffered serious injuries and two crew members have received minor injuries.

According to the Royal Thai Navy, the accident occurred on 9 March at 9:22 am (local time) following a tank explosion.

The 39-years old vessel was carrying around 1.8 million litres of gasoil and 1.3 million litres of diesel.

Fire teams needed about an hour to set the fire under control.
