Tesco to open cutting-edge Distribution Hub

Tesco has unveiled plans for a major new distribution centre at DP World’s London Gateway, marking a multi-million-pound investment to support its growing UK store network and long-term logistics strategy.

The new facility, slated to open in 2029, will serve as a key part of Tesco’s efforts to future-proof its supply chain. With the retailer’s store network continuing to expand, the upcoming site aims to boost capacity, streamline operations, and improve sustainability across its logistics footprint.

“Our distribution network is vital for ensuring customers receive products at the right place, time and condition”, said Andrew Woolfenden, UK Distribution & Fulfilment Director, Tesco.

Located within DP World’s Thames estuary logistics hub, the distribution centre will take full advantage of integrated sea, road, and rail links. Tesco has partnered with logistics technology specialist Witron to bring the project to life.

The site will primarily handle dry grocery goods and will be designed to maximise efficiency, safety, and ergonomic operations.

“With the latest technology and machinery, once fully operational, this represents a large-scale project for dry grocery distribution”, commented Helmut Prieschenk, CEO, Witron.

“DP World London Gateway is helping to make Britain’s trade flow by sea, road and rail, connecting businesses across the UK with global markets and boosting the resilience of national supply chains”, said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, DP World Group.
