Ten organizations launch Maritime Simulation Project

Ten organizations have launched a joint project titled “Development of Integrated Simulation Platform for Sustainable and Competitive Maritime Industry.” The initiative officially began on October 1, 2025.

Participants include MTI Co., Ltd. (NYK Group), Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, JAMSTEC, Japan Marine United, MITSUI E&S, NMRI, Tsuneishi Akishima Laboratory, Osaka University, and Kyoto University. The project was selected by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

The project aims to advance high-performance next-generation ships. It will use digital solutions and high-resolution atmosphere and ocean forecasting to support safe and stable navigation. This work aligns with the Japanese government’s Key and Advanced Technology R&D through Cross Community Collaboration Program (K Program).

Following coordination with the program director and subcommittee members, the detailed research and development plan has been finalized. The initiative will focus on creating an integrated simulation platform to enhance sustainability, competitiveness, and safety in the maritime industry.

This collaboration represents a major step toward digital innovation and advanced ship technologies in Japan’s maritime sector.
