Greek vessel owner Danaos Shipping, which owns the 4,253TEU boxship ZIM Kingston, received permission by the Canadian Coast Guard to allow the boarding of technical experts from the company as well as two marine firefighters, who are now on board the vessel.
ZIM Kingston, chartered by the Israeli container line ZIM, suffered a severe fire incident on 22 October, following a collapse and loss of approximately 40 boxes near Victoria, Canada.

Permission was also given for six members of the vessel’s crew to return but adverse weather conditions have not allowed them to board until late on 25 October.
The two firefighters arrived yesterday on board to evaluate the situation and were joined later by four more firefighters as well as an expert team who will be responsible for the final report to the Canadian Coast Guard before the vessel is cleared to enter the port of Vancouver.
