STI implements Digital Twin Platform to enhance terminal operations

San Antonio Terminal Internacional (STI) has implemented a digital twin-based platform to manage and optimize its terminal operations. STI is a port operated by Hanseatic Global Terminals and SSA Marine. The platform was developed in partnership with NextPort.AI, a company specializing in digital solutions for ports.

The digital twin provides a virtual, real-time view of terminal activity. It allows operators to monitor the full equipment fleet, including terminal tractors, container handlers, and STS and RTG cranes. The system offers a clear overview of operations and helps identify opportunities to improve efficiency and process management.

STI said the platform builds on internal work in telemetry and data optimization. The system enables real-time tracking of equipment location and performance, supporting better operational control and decision-making.

All terminal equipment is fitted with the “Black Dog” card, a device developed by STI’s reliability team. The technology transmits key operational data from each asset to a central system for analysis, supporting both operations and maintenance.

The platform is also expected to support more sustainable operations. By using telemetry data, STI can optimize transport routes, reduce fuel consumption, and limit equipment wear. These improvements will help lower emissions and reduce the terminal’s overall carbon footprint.
