Spanish Government earmarks over US$19 million for Sagunto inner rail network construction

The Spanish Government announced the tendering of a contract for the construction of the inner rail network of the Port of Sagunto in Valencia, with an estimated investment of €17.5 million (US19.3 million) and a completion period of 11 months.

The project will be financed with European CEF funds and will include the design of an Intermodal Goods Facility, with a yard for containers and another for vehicles.

More specifically, the Container Beach will be located, in part, on an unpaved landfill area and will have a length of 750 metres, arranged in the South–North direction, enabling the future widening of the access road to the southern area of the Port of Sagunto.

Additionally, the Vehicle Beach must be capable of accommodating trains of 750 metres in length and have a service road to the terminal that also connects the beach with the quay.

This project is part of the strategy of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), which includes investments of more than US$260 million in the rail sector and is related to the plan to decarbonise operations.

In order to carry out the works of the new project, a series of necessary actions are contemplated and foreseen in the tender approved by the Government.
