South Carolina Ports (SC Ports) has announced an all-time monthly record in November for container volumes, surpassing March’s box traffic, which was the highest in a single month so far.
November constitutes the ninth consecutive month of year-on-year monthly record cargo volumes in the SC Ports, with a record number of retail imports continuing to flow into the Port of Charleston.
In particular, SC Ports moved 250,711TEU at Wando Welch Terminal, North Charleston Terminal and Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal, representing a growth of 21% over the same month of 2020, while pier containers were 138,573, which translates to a 21% increase.
Loaded imports hit an all-time monthly record as well, and were elevated by 36% year-on-year, while they completed 127,081TEU. Meanwhile, loaded exports also increased, but at a slower pace of 5% in November, reaching 67,639TEU.
So far in the fiscal year 2022 which started on 1 July 2021, South Carolina Ports has handled 1.17 million TEU, as well as 650,363 pier containers, reflecting a year-on-year rise of almost 17% and 16%, respectively.
Last but not least, SC Ports’ two rail-served inland ports, Inland Port Greer and Inland Port Dillon, have also seen a busy November with 16,629 combined rail moves reported, 14,384 of which were recorded by Inland Port Greer, which reflects a 28% year-on-year rise.
“While the global supply chain remains strained from handling unprecedented amounts of cargo, SC Ports brings fluidity to the supply chain,” stated SC Ports CEO, Jim Newsome, who went on to add that the SC Ports are experiencing higher than normal on-terminal inventories, especially in empty containers.
