Shimizu Port in central Japan handled 34,683 foreign-trade containers in November. That marked a 4.4% increase from a year earlier, according to the Shimizu Port Authority and as Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA) reported.
Exports rose to 12,726 TEUs. That was up 6.8% year on year.
Imports reached 16,717 TEUs, an increase of 4.4%.
Together, full containers totaled 29,443 TEUs. This represented a 5.4% annual increase.
By contrast, empty container volumes slipped slightly. The port processed 5,240 empty TEUs, down 1.1%.
Domestic container traffic also grew sharply. Volumes climbed to 10,448 TEUs, a rise of 16.9%.
Combined foreign and domestic throughput reached 45,131 TEUs. This marked a 7% increase and the second consecutive month of growth.
For the January–November period, Shimizu Port handled 371,717 foreign-trade containers. That figure was up 1.7% year on year.
Exports over the first 11 months totaled 138,391 TEUs, up 1.2%.
Imports reached 181,232 TEUs, a 2.3% increase.
Empty container volumes stood at 52,094 TEUs, up 1.1%.
Domestic containers totaled 100,377 TEUs. That was an increase of 0.9%.
Total container throughput for the year to date reached 472,094 TEUs. That represented a 1.6% year-on-year increase.
