Shikoku Electric Power and Imabari Shipbuilding have started operations of an on-site energy storage system at the Saijo Shipyard, using battery technology developed by PowerX.

The project deploys two Mega Power 2700A stationary battery units, delivering a total storage capacity of 4.9 MWh and a rated output of 2 MW. The system is operated by Yonden Demand Side Storage LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shikoku Electric Power.

The initiative aims to stabilize electricity supply and demand by optimizing battery charging and discharging, particularly as renewable energy usage increases. It also supports cost reduction by managing peak electricity demand at the factory and maximizing the use of stored energy.

Construction began in September 2025, with commercial operations starting on April 1, 2026.

The three companies plan to use the project to build operational expertise in on-site battery storage and expand similar solutions to other locations, supporting grid stability and contributing to decarbonization efforts.
