Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping (SJS), primarily a domestic Chinese liner operator, has joined other carriers in enhancing its Vietnam services.
[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The company, a subsidiary of Shanghai International Port Group, has purchased slots from Maersk Line’s intra-Asia unit, Sealand, on services IA98, IA68 and IA2 so that it can carry cargoes between China, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong.
SJS’s participation in the IA98 service is limited to the loop connecting Shanghai with Bangkok, Laem Chabang and Ho Chi Minh City. The service, jointly run by Sealand, Wan Hai Lines and Interasia Lines, rotates in three weeks using three ships of about 1,700TEU.
SJS’s involvement in the IA68 service is restricted to the link between Shanghai and Ho Chi Minh City. The service has three-week rotation using three ships of around 2,650TEU.
On the IA2 service, SJJ’s participation is limited to the loop connecting Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kobe, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City and Laem Chabang.
SJS’s slot purchases on Sealand’s services follow the company’s merger with fellow SIPG subsidiary Shanghai Hai Hua Shipping (HASCO), at the behest of their parent. The slot purchases enhance SJS’s current offerings between central China, Thailand and Vietnam.
SJS was focused on Chinese domestic services while HASCO operated domestic routes as well as intra-Asia services connecting China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Container volumes from South East Asia have been growing because US-China trade tensions caused manufacturers to shift some production from China to Vietnam.[/s2If]
