Seaspan enters into new shipbuilding contracts

Seaspan signed 27 shipbuilding agreements for newbuild container vessels with capacities ranging from 9,000 to 17,000 TEUs, according to a recent Atlas filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

These contracts were thereafter novated to certain nominees, according to the filing. Upon delivery, 13 newbuilds will be chartered by the company from such nominees under bareboat charters, and will then commence long-term time charters with a customer.

Other contracts include five 17,000 TEU dual-fuel LNG boxships and five 16,000 TEU LNG container vessels. Upon delivery, these 10 ships will commence long-term charters with a Seaspan’s customer.

Additionally, another four contracts are for 9,000 TEU dual-fuel LNG container vessels, which are novated to a customer.

The filing added that during the secodn quarter of the year, Seaspan received 11 newbuild vessels ranging in size from 7,000 to 16,000 TEUs, each of which commenced a long-term charter upon delivery.

In July and August 2024, the company accepted the delivery of three 7,000 TEU newbuildings, each of which also started a long-term charter upon delivery.
