SCR marks record freight loading

Over 117.16 million tonnes recorded before end of fiscal year 2018-19

South Central Railway has recorded the highest ever freight loading of 117.16 million tonnes (MTs) surpassing the target as well as the earlier best ever annual performance much before the end of the financial year of 2018-19. The Railway Board had set up a target of 111 MTs. However, a multi-pronged strategy, close coordination between different wings and by identifying traffic trends, the record was achieved, said General Manager Gajanan Mallya on Tuesday.

Previous highest freight loading was in 2014-15 when it had transported 116.80 MTs. The General Manager took stock of the ‘result yielding marketing plan’ of the operating department led by principal chief operations manager N. Madhusudhana Rao and appreciated the entire team.

The freight record was possible to a significant extent due to heavy rise in demand for coal from power houses in the region. Sufficient number of rakes were made available for Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) for transport of coal to various destinations of up to 64.14 MTs surpassing the earlier best performance of 62.09 MTs in 2014-15. Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited (KPCL) in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh was another core customer, enabling transport of huge freight loads to and from the port to various destinations. Cement industries too gave good business to the zone with around 27 MTs transported.
