South Carolina Ports (SC Ports) handled a total of 264,334 TEU at Wando Welch, North Charleston and Hugh K. Leatherman terminals in March, which translates to a container throughput increase of 6% over the same month of 2021.
With this performance, the Port of Charleston achieved a new monthly record in box volumes for the 13th consecutive month, which was mainly driven by an increase of 16% year-on-year in imports.
At the same time, SC Ports recorded 17,413 rail moves at Inland Ports Greer and Dillon.
So far in the fiscal year 2022, from July through March, the ninth-busiest port in the US has moved 2.14 million TEU, representing a 15% growth over the fiscal year of 2021.
South Carolina Ports has recently hired more than 150 people in operations and invested more than US$2 billion into port infrastructure, as part of an effort to respond to the record volumes and ongoing supply chain challenges, while a new berth was also added in the new Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal.
