Saudi ports see over 955,000 TEUs in December 2022

Saudi ports closed December with a run of exceptional outcomes across numerous metrics, the most notable of which was a 13.63% year-on-year increase in container throughput from 841,055 TEUs in December 2021 to 955,731 TEUs in the same month last year.

Statistics show an increase in all container categories, with a 7.15% rise in exports reaching 214,789 TEUs and a 24.41% growth in imports climbing to 246,023 TEUs. Additionally, Saudi ports’ transshipment sector continued its upward trend, marking an 11.76% jump to 494,919 TEUs.

Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) reported that the vessels that called the ports in the country increased by 18.83% year-on-year in December to 1,407 units.

Furthermore, the overall cargo volumes increased by 14.06% to 29,612,588 tons in December 2022. General cargo grew by 35.27% to 828,247 tons, dry bulk cargo increased by 12.99% to 4,427,370 tons and liquid bulk cargo rose 14.28% to 16,197,188 tons.

Meanwhile, car imports increased by 22.74% in the last month of 2022, reaching 80,146 units compared to 65,297 vehicles in 2021.
