A major step forward for Saudi Arabia’s logistics infrastructure was marked, as HE Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), laid the foundation stone for a dedicated logistics corridor that will connect Jeddah Islamic Port directly to the Al-Khumrah Logistics Park.
Stretching 17 kilometers with two lanes in each direction, the corridor will feature 12 bridges designed to streamline truck traffic between the port and the logistics park—bypassing city streets entirely. The aim is to reduce congestion, boost port handling capacity by 10%, and improve overall supply chain fluidity.
”This direct logistics corridor will significantly enhance truck movement efficiency and increase the handling capacity of Jeddah Islamic Port by 10%. The project will also support the integration of transport modes, strengthen supply chains, and improve infrastructure development”, said Minister Al-Jasser.
The project includes a range of infrastructure enhancements such as emergency access points, maintenance zones, and a complete rainwater drainage system. Environmental considerations also played a role in the design, with the corridor expected to help reduce carbon emissions by minimizing delays caused by city traffic.
