San Pedro Bay Ports container dwell times remain low in June

Τhe average dwell time for containers moving by truck through the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach remained low and steady in June, compared to the previous month.

The average rail-destined cargo dwell time saw positive improvement with a decrease of approximately two days.

Cargo traveling through the San Pedro Bay Port Complex and destined for local delivery via truck spent an average of 2.70 days at port terminals in June, compared to the average of 2.47 days in May, according to a Pacific Merchant Shipping Association’s report.

Additionally, the average rail-destined cargo dwell for June was 4.73 days, compared to May’s 6.44 days. The change in rail dwell time shows improved efficient movement in this stage of the supply chain and is in the lower range for 2024.

“We are pleased to see that truck dwell time remains low and that rail dwell time is improving,” stated Natasha Villa, External Affairs Manager of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association (PMSA). “This progress highlights our commitment to operational efficiency and our ongoing efforts to streamline logistics, ensuring a smoother and more efficient flow of goods.”
