Samskip launches direct Morocco-UK-Netherlands route

Samskip has introduced a dedicated reefer container service linking Morocco directly with the UK and the Netherlands, marking the country’s first fast and sustainable shortsea route for perishable goods.

The new Moroccan Reefer Service connects Agadir and Casablanca with weekly, non-stop sailings to ports in southern UK and Rotterdam. Designed to serve Morocco’s fresh produce exporters, the service offers the fastest door-to-door transit times available on the market, positioning itself as a viable alternative to road transport for fruits and vegetables.

Samskip signed a long-term partnership with the Moroccan Fruit Board to support the initiative.

“This new connection marks a major milestone, not just for Samskip, but for the entire supply chain between Morocco and Northern Europe,” said Ólafur Orri Ólafsson, Chief Business Officer at Samskip. “We’ve listened to growers, importers, and retailers, and will deliver a service that’s faster, greener, and more reliable.”

The service integrates customs clearance and inland delivery, and is the only container route fast enough to carry fresh vegetables. The use of 45ft reefer containers matches road trailer capacity while cutting CO₂ emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional trucking.
