Samskip launches direct Morocco–Europe service

Samskip has launched a new direct shortsea service connecting Agadir and Casablanca with the UK and the Netherlands. The service marks a major step forward for Moroccan exporters and European importers.

The new route moves fresh produce and industrial cargo faster and more sustainably, offering a strong alternative to long-haul road transport. Dedicated vessels, advanced reefer technology, and seamless multimodal links across Europe ensure high reliability and lower emissions.

“This connection is a milestone for Samskip and for logistics between North Africa and Northern Europe,” said Samskip Group CEO Ólafur Orri Ólafsson. “We designed this service around the needs of growers, exporters, and importers.”

Samskip now sails weekly from Agadir and Casablanca to Tilbury and Rotterdam, giving Moroccan exporters direct access to over 30 European destinations. Agadir focuses on chilled and frozen goods, while Casablanca handles a wider range of exports, including automotive parts, chemicals, packaging, and construction materials.

To support the service, Samskip has added a new fleet of GPS-equipped reefer containers, including Controlled Atmosphere units that keep produce fresh for up to 45 days.

“Every shipment reflects reliability and trust,” Ólafur added. “With advanced reefer systems and integrated customs support, we make trading easier and more predictable.”

By shifting cargo from road to sea, customers can cut CO₂ emissions by up to 80% while benefiting from a faster and more stable logistics chain. Samskip’s local teams in Morocco and Europe manage customs and documentation to provide end-to-end efficiency.
