Samskip to apply additional low water charges

Samskip’s Germany corridor is still impacted by the extreme drop in water levels along the Rhine river following the persistent heat and drought in Central Europe.

The low Rhine water levels have been reducing the load capacity of company’s barges on the Duisburg-Nijmegen-Rotterdam service for the past months and since October the water levels have reduced further compared to August and September. Currently there is no information about when the water levels will recover to normal.

Samskip has been mitigating the impact for its clients by using alternative options such as 3rd party barges, rail and road haulage. “These options regretfully confronted us with higher operational cost than originally estimated due to the further drop of the water levels”, company said in its press release.

For that reason Samskip increases the temporary additional charge of €80 per unit to €119 per unit until the situation has returned to normal. The new charge will be applicable from Monday 26th November for every collection/ delivery from/ to the following Germany zip code areas: DE30-31-32-33-34-35-36-37-40-41-42-43-44-45-46-47-48-49-50-51-52-53-54-56-57-58-59.
