The container trade between South Korea and China grew 5.1% from the previous year to 3,176,719 TEU in 2019, despite concerns over a decline in freight movement due to the trade friction between the US and China, according to statistics compiled by the Yellow Sea Liner Shipping Council (YSLSC). Local containers increased 3.5% to 2,916,264 TEU, while feeder containers surged 26.4% to 260,455 TEU.

Shipments from South Korea to China increased 3.3% to 1,196,383 TEU. Local and feeder cargo were robust, rising 3.25% to 1,108,437 TEU and 3.83% to 80,246 TEU, respectively. Meanwhile, those from China to South Korea improved 6.29% to 1,980,036 TEU. Local containers accounted for 1,807,827 TEU, up 3.69%, while the remaining 172,209 TEU were feeder containers, which strengthened a notable 43.32%.
