Ryder System has announced a leadership transition as CEO Robert E. Sanchez prepares to retire on March 31, 2026. Sanchez, who has led Ryder since January 2013 and served as chairman since May 2013, will become executive chair of the board to support a smooth handover.
John J. Diez, Ryder’s President and Chief Operating Officer, will assume the role of CEO on March 31, 2026. He was also elected to the company’s board of directors, effective the same date. Diez has spent more than 20 years with Ryder, holding key leadership roles across fleet management, dedicated transportation, and corporate finance.
Michael F. Hilton, Ryder’s lead independent director, praised Sanchez for his strategic vision and strong results. He highlighted Diez’s experience, business acumen, and deep knowledge of the company as key factors in the planned succession.
Sanchez reflected on his more than three decades with Ryder, expressing confidence in Diez’s ability to lead the company forward. “John’s understanding of our business, sound judgment, and strategic mindset uniquely positions him to drive Ryder’s continued growth,” Sanchez said.
Diez called the appointment an honor and emphasized his commitment to building on Ryder’s culture and strong customer focus. He cited opportunities to grow as supply chains become increasingly complex and demand for port-to-door services rises.
Diez has served as President and COO since January 1, 2025, contributing to strategic direction and operational management. His prior roles include Executive Vice President and CFO, as well as leadership of Ryder’s fleet management and dedicated transportation businesses, driving revenue growth and improved returns.
