Container Terminal St. Petersburg (CTSP) has announced a new order of two Konecranes ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, which was booked in December 2020.
[s2If is_user_logged_in()]With the new equipment, the Russian box terminal will operate a fleet of six Konecranes STS cranes and 24 Konecranes rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes.
CTSP will receive the new cranes in a period between the first and the second quarter of 2022 and they will have the size and outreach to handle container ships of 16 container rows across.
Aleksandr Scherbinin, CSTP managing director, highlighted the co-operation between the two companies, saying, “We have been using Konecranes container cranes for a long time, and we have always been satisfied with the crane performance, backed by excellent local service. When it came time to select new STSs, our choice was relatively easy.”
Given the harsh winters that St. Petersburg experiences, the cranes will be specially designed for operation temperatures of -40C, said the Scandinavian manufacturer. They will have power chains instead of festoons for high-speed operation, greater reliability, and easier maintenance, according to an announcement.
Additionally, the main girder will have a field-proven trapezoidal shape, making it lighter while preserving rigidity, while the cranes will also have the Konecranes boom collision prevention system.[/s2If]
