Rhenus Group has acquired its first rail-connected terminal in Kazakhstan. The move strengthens its presence in Central Asia.
The terminal is located at Bayserke railway station near Almaty. It operates under QAZContargo Almaty Ltd. The site offers container depot services, bonded storage, and block train handling.
The facility boosts container capacity in the Almaty region. It provides direct access to national and international rail routes. It supports growing trade flows between China, Europe, and Central Asia.
Contargo Group, a long-standing Rhenus partner, will operate the terminal. The company brings extensive experience in international container logistics.
The terminal focuses on intermodal solutions. It handles container depots, block trains, and bonded cargo. It also transfers bulk cargo from rail wagons into containers. This supports flexible multimodal transport along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
Rhenus has operated in Kazakhstan since 1996. It runs freight forwarding services in Almaty, Astana, and Karaganda. The new terminal strengthens these activities by adding rail-based infrastructure.
This is Rhenus’ second container terminal in Central Asia. The first opened in Andijon, Uzbekistan, in 2025 with Uzbek Railways.
Rhenus said regionalised supply chains are driving demand for inland rail capacity. The company views the investment as a long-term commitment to Central Asia and resilient Eurasian logistics.
