Regional Container Lines Public Company Limited (RCL), a leading global shipping company based in Thailand, announced the launch of its newest vessel, “GURU BHUM,” at a distinguished naming ceremony in Shanghai during the second quarter of 2024.
The event was attended by Sumate Tanthuwanit, chairman of the executive committee of RCL; Dr Twinchok Tanthuwanit, president of RCL, as well as notable VIPs, industry leaders, and stakeholders.
Among the distinguished guests were Sirichai Manoch, guest of honour and vice president of the Mining Industry Council; Phortchana Manoch, Lady Sponsor; Apirag Vanich, president of Univanich Palm Oil PCL; and Wu Lin, senior executive vice president of Bank of China (Thailand).
The vessel, built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company Limited, a major shipbuilding company in China, signifies a major milestone in RCL’s dedication to providing efficient and reliable shipping solutions.
It features a nominal capacity of 7,080 TEUs, including provisions for 800 reefer TEUs. The vessel complies with top-tier standards for nitrogen oxide (NOx) Tier III emissions in Emission Control Areas (ECAs) and is sulfur oxide (SOx) compliant.
Its innovative design incorporates S-BOW technology to enhance operational efficiency and is fully equipped to safely handle dangerous goods. Eco-friendly features include the capability to supply electrical power for reefers at 5kW per FEU. With a cruising speed of 21.0 knots and adherence to the latest Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) standards, it sets a new benchmark for energy efficiency. Additional sustainable technologies, such as Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) for seawater pumps, LED lighting, and a twisted rudder, further highlight RCL’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
Chartered out to Pacific International Lines (PIL) for approximately three years under the name “KOTA TEMA,” the vessel is set to begin its inaugural journey, serving PIL in its SWS service.
This route connects key ports including Xingang, Qingdao, Pusan New Port, Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, Singapore, Tema, Lome, Apapa, Onne, Lome (2nd call), Port Kelang West Port, Singapore, and Xingang, with additional ad-hoc calls to ports such as Abidjan, Cotonou, and Cape Town.
