Record container ships approaching Port of Antwerp-Bruges

Three different vessels are competing for the title of biggest container ship ever to call at Belgium’s Port of Antwerp-Bruges in the coming weeks.

The container ship MSC Tessa arrived at Antwerp’s MPET facility on 20 April 2023. It is the port’s first ship with a capacity of more than 24,000 TEUs. Furthermore, MSC Tessa can carry a total of 24,116 TEUs.

That record will only last a while, as OOCL Spain arrives in Zeebrugge on 26 April. It may name itself the Port of Antwerp-Bruges record ship for a month, with a capacity of 24,188 TEUs.

Because the MSC Loreto will arrive in Antwerp on 26 May. It is not just the largest ship ever to call at the port, but it is also the world’s largest container ship, a title it shares with its sister ship MSC Irina.
