RAD Propulsion and Williams Shipping launch zero-emission marine operation

RAD Propulsion, a Southampton-based specialist in electric marine propulsion, has partnered with Williams Shipping to deliver local zero-emission vessel operations in Southampton’s busy port waters.

The project combined RAD’s electric propulsion technology and autonomous capabilities with Williams Shipping’s expertise in marine operations and harbour authority coordination. Together, they deployed an electric vessel to support a marine civil engineering project, transporting materials across one of the UK’s busiest waterways.

The collaboration achieved three major benefits:

  • Zero local emissions, cutting port air pollution.

  • Low acoustic impact, improving safety and reducing noise.

  • Autonomous capabilities, enabling remote piloting and improved efficiency.

Dan Hook, CEO of RAD Propulsion, highlighted the project as proof of Southampton’s role as a hub for maritime innovation, while Williams Shipping’s Marine Operations Director, Richard Brooks, emphasised the importance of supporting local technology partners as part of their sustainability strategy.

This joint effort underscores the potential of electrification and autonomy in maritime operations, demonstrating scalable, sustainable solutions for the future of port logistics.
