PSA Mumbai achieves two million TEU milestone in 2023

PSA Mumbai, located in Maharashtra’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) in India, handled over two million TEUs in 2023, marking a remarkable 30% year-on-year growth.

Benefiting from its strategic location and top-notch facilities, PSA Mumbai had a record-breaking year, managing over 2,000 container rakes and facilitating the docking of 834 ships. Renowned for its ability to handle large vessels, PSA Mumbai plays an important role in propelling the growth of the Indian logistics sector.

To celebrate this milestone, PSA Mumbai hosted a grand celebration on 5 January, bringing together customers, government officials and industry associations. The event served as an opportunity to express gratitude and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders who have been instrumental in the terminal’s success.

According to a statement, PSA Mumbai’s commitment to innovation and infrastructure enhancement has been the driving force behind its exceptional performance. The terminal has made substantial investments in state-of-the-art equipment, advanced digital systems, and training initiatives to optimise efficiency and productivity.

Additionally, PSA Mumbai’s strategic connectivity through major highways, railway networks, and a dedicated rail freight corridor has streamlined transportation to key markets in India, solidifying its position as the country’s largest and premier container gateway. With superior facilities, including a dedicated access route and a continuous wharf length of one kilometer, the terminal accommodates various container types, earning it popularity for reefers and Out-of-Gauge (OOG) containers.

The anticipated operational launch of Phase 2 of the terminal expansion by the first quarter of 2025 will establish PSA Mumbai as India’s largest standalone container terminal, further enhancing its capacity and operational capabilities. This expansion is poised to create fresh opportunities for the Export-Import (EXIM) community to leverage new facilities, supporting the continued growth of the Indian logistics sector.
