PSA Halifax has announced the launch of the AMERIGO service, a new joint operation by CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping, OOCL and ONE, which made its inaugural call at the PSA Halifax Atlantic Hub on 25 November 2025 with the arrival of the CMA CGM Ambition.
Moreover, the AMERIGO service strengthens direct trade links between the Mediterranean and North America, offering Canadian exporters and importers expanded market access and improved connectivity. The rotation includes major Mediterranean ports such as Salerno, La Spezia, Genoa, Vado Ligure, Valencia and Algeciras, alongside U.S. East Coast gateways including New York, Norfolk, Savannah and Miami.
“The debut of the AMERIGO service in Halifax underscores our commitment to enhancing global trade flows,” said Duncan Glass, Managing Director at PSA Halifax. “This new service provides our customers with more choices, faster transit times, and a reliable network between the Mediterranean, Southern Europe and Canada via Halifax, with seamless onward access to Montreal, Toronto and the U.S. Midwest through Canadian National Railway’s extensive network.”
PSA Halifax noted that the service will further enhance the port’s position as a strategic cold-chain hub. The AMERIGO rotation integrates with the terminal’s expedited rail program, which moves time-sensitive reefer cargo, including citrus fruit, directly from vessel to rail, departing the same day for inland destinations.
This streamlined process is made possible through coordination between PSA Halifax, Canadian National Railway and the Halifax Port Authority.
“On behalf of the Halifax Port Authority, I want to extend a warm welcome to the new Ocean Alliance – Mediterranean service and today’s call by the CMA CGM Ambition,” said Fulvio Fracassi, President and CEO of the Halifax Port Authority. “The addition of this Mediterranean service strengthens our gateway partnership with the Ocean Alliance and ONE, complementing existing South and Southeast Asia services with a second weekly call. We look forward to the new opportunities this service will bring to expand and diversify Canadian trade.”
The CMA CGM Ambition, a 7,327 TEU LNG-powered vessel, is part of CMA CGM’s new generation of environmentally efficient ships supporting global maritime decarbonization efforts.
