Project44 buys Convey for US$255 million

The provider of supply chain visibility platform for shippers and logistics firms, project44 has announced the acquisition of the Texas-based last-mile for retail and customer experience company Convey.

With this movement, project44 aims to extend its real-time visibility capabilities and last mile, including parcel, courier, white-glove doorstep delivery, and visibility into item returns.

The acquisition of Convey and its Delivery Experience Management (DEM) platform amounts to US$255 million in total, constituting the largest to date and the third project44’s acquisition in 2021, following Ocean Insights and ClearMetal.

“As we approach the holiday season amidst ongoing disruptions and heightened customer expectations, retail’s supply chain has never been more vulnerable,” stated the project44 team.

With the acquisition of Convey, project44 now connects more than 880 global shippers and third-party logistics providers with a network of 113,000 carriers, 2.6 million assets and more than 9 billion last-mile shipment events to help shippers optimise costs, grow revenue, improve speed, service and the delivery experience, according to a statement.

“Now with Convey, project44 is bringing this approach and cutting-edge technology to the most complex customer experience challenge yet: the supply chain,” noted Rob Taylor, founder and CEO of Convey.

In particular, by combining project44’s real-time visibility platform with Convey’s delivery experience management capabilities, the company hopes to develop real-time visibility solution with several benefits, such as establishing a unified view of the supply chain – from raw material through consumer door, while “bridging the gap” between consumer and back to back (B2B) delivery experience, by covering more of supply chain with increased functionality.

Furthermore, project44 aims to streamline the day-to-day workflows and collaboration between shippers, sellers, and carriers to optimise for reduced overhead and increased time spent on value-added work.

Last but not least, the Chicago-based logistics platform company focuses on expanding the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the supply chain through predictive estimated time of arrivals (ETA) and dynamic transit times both pre-and-post purchase, powered by “the industry’s most comprehensive transportation dataset.
