Progress advances at Lumsden Point in Port Hedland

Work is progressing at the Lumsden Point development. The project will expand the Port of Port Hedland’s export and import capacity.

Contractors will install more than 280 steel piles in the coming months. These piles will form the base of two new multi-user wharfs.

Lumsden Point will support the export of battery metals and minerals. It will also handle the import of renewable energy infrastructure.

Ertech Pty Ltd has won the Landside Civils and Services contract. Ertech will deliver earthworks, build internal roads, seal the causeway, and install underground power, water and communications.

The project will boost direct trade in the Pilbara. It will also create jobs and deliver economic opportunities for the region.

Imports through Lumsden Point are expected to begin in mid-2026.

The Australian Government is investing $565 million in common-user port upgrades in the Pilbara. It is contributing $450 million to Lumsden Point. The Western Australian Government is adding $96.6 million.
