Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles update San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan

The ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles will provide an update on the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) on 8 November.

The discussion will cover updates on the 2022 Emissions Inventories, the implementation of the Clean Truck Fund Rate, zero-emission cargo handling equipment targets, and grant funding cooperation with the ports and the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

The ports will accept public feedback on CAAP implementation during the stakeholder meeting. Prior to the meeting, the agenda will be posted on the CAAP website.

The CAAP, which was updated in 2017, is a comprehensive strategy for speeding progress toward a zero-emission future while maintaining and enhancing the ports’ worldwide competitive position.

In addition, port-related air pollution emissions in San Pedro Bay have decreased by 90% for diesel particles, 63% for nitrogen oxides, and 97% for sulfur oxides since 2005.

The 2017 CAAP included targets for lowering greenhouse gas emissions from port-related sources. The agreement requires ports to cut GHG emissions by 40% below 1990 levels by 2030 and 80% below 1990 levels by 2050. The first Clean Air Action Plan was authorized in 2006.
