Porto Chibatão acquires four Liebherr LBS 800 cranes

The agreement for the acquisition of four cranes was formalized during the Intermodal event in São Paulo back in 2022. These cranes, delivered in September, have now joined a fleet of 16 barge-slewing cranes operating at the port.

Porto Chibatão, established in 1987, holds a pivotal role in the region’s logistical operations, significantly impacting the local economy. It serves the Manaus industrial park, commonly known as the Manaus Free Trade Zone, facilitating the handling of growing cargo volumes in the area.

“As a leading port operator in Brazil, we are always looking for innovative solutions to improve our performance and sustainability,” noted Jhony Fidelis, general executive director of Grupo Chibatão.

This collaboration between Liebherr and Porto Chibatão marks a significant milestone for Brazil. Since 2007, their partnership has thrived, characterized by a strategic growth approach that embraced the early adoption of cutting-edge Liebherr FCC and LBS-type cranes at the port, setting a global trend.

Currently, Porto Chibatão stands as the largest private port and the primary customer of Liebherr port equipment in Latin America, boasting an array of 42 distinct cranes, including gantry cranes, fixed cargo cranes, and barge-slewing cranes.

“These particular LBS 800 cranes from Liebherr are a perfect fit for our vision, as they offer high productivity and low emissions. We are proud to work with Liebherr, a company that shares our commitment to excellence and fostering environmental responsibility,” added Jhony Fidelis.

Spanning an impressive one million square meters, the port demonstrates a remarkable static load capacity of 40,000 TEUs, showcasing its capability to efficiently manage substantial cargo volumes. The four LBS 800 cranes, tailored for container handling, boast a turnover of up to 35 containers per hour and a lifting capacity of up to 104 tonnes.

Moreover, featuring tower extensions to enhance visibility during operations, these cranes are crafted based on the latest Liebherr mobile harbour crane design, incorporating an upgraded interior cabin and more digitally advanced architecture, laying the groundwork for partial automation and forthcoming assistance systems.
