Port of Virginia receives two new Super Post-Panamax cranes

The Port of Virginia has received two new Super Post-Panamax cranes to Norfolk International Terminals South on 31 March.

The new cranes are more than 50 metres tall and have a boom-out length of almost 70 metres. They also have the capacity to reach across a vessel that is 26 containers wide.

The new equipment will be able to accommodate ultra large container vessels (ULCVs) that make regular stops in Virginia and even higher-volume ships of the future.

“These cranes will expand our lift capacity, berth productivity and the ability to handle multiple ULCVs simultaneously,” commented Stephen A. Edwards, CEO and executive director of the Virginia Port Authority.
