Port of Thessaloniki on advancing cruise sector development

Port of Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki Port Authority has entered into a partnership with Five Senses Consulting and Development, an international firm specialising in cruise port and destination development, with the objective of strengthening and expanding cruise activity at the Port of Thessaloniki.

The collaboration builds on progress achieved in recent years and seeks to capitalise on the strategic advantages offered by the port, the city and the broader region of Northern Greece.

A central focus of the partnership is the development of homeporting opportunities, positioning Thessaloniki as a point of embarkation and disembarkation for cruise passengers rather than solely a port of call.

The strategic agenda of the collaboration encompasses four principal areas: exploring homeporting potential, deepening cooperation with the city and local tourism stakeholders, developing new visitor experiences across Thessaloniki and the surrounding region, and promoting the destination at international cruise forums.

ThPA CEO Dr. Ioannis Tsaras described Thessaloniki as a destination with considerable untapped potential in the cruise sector, emphasising the partnership’s aim to strengthen relationships with cruise operators and develop a more competitive and sustainable destination offering.

Ioannis Bras, CEO of Five Senses Consulting, highlighted the city’s distinct cultural identity and heritage as foundations for building a stronger international market presence.

The initiative is supported by the port’s modern infrastructure, including the newly equipped Alexander the Great Cruise Terminal, its proximity to the city centre, and access to the significant cultural and natural attractions of Northern Greece.
