Port of Thessaloniki and Suez Canal Economic Zone sign cooperation agreement

Port of Thessaloniki (ThPA SA) and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) have signed a Cooperation Agreement, aiming to develop international trade and increase their business activities by promoting the sea route between Europe and Asia via the Suez Canal.

The deal includes the exchange of knowledge and professional experience between the parties, as well as the development of joint initiatives focusing on commercial and educational actions in the context of port activity.

“This agreement creates additional opportunities for further development of the maritime trade between Europe and Asia, which are greatly enhanced by the strategic location of the two parties,” stated the minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy of Greece, Giannis Plakiotakis.

“We are particularly satisfied that the Port of Thessaloniki provides an evolving, efficient and reliable combined transport network, which secures and upgrades the supply chain, offering added value at an economic and social level,” he added.

Furthermore, the chairman of SCZone Eng. Yehia Zaki said that the cooperation is motivated by a mutual interest in the development of important trade flows, as well as logistics and port interfaces that will result in increased traffic for the ports of SCZone.

Meanwhile, the executive chairman of the board of directors of ThPA SA, Athanasios Liagkos noted that the cooperation with SCZone is part of the Greek port’s strategy to propel the regional supply chain to a new era by providing connectivity that facilitates business growth, fostering economic and social added value and respecting the mandate for a “green” future.
