Port of Quebec and Novarium partner to boost innovation

Novarium, the blue economy innovation campus, announced a strategic partnership with the Port of Quebec, one of Canada’s five major ports.

This cooperation seeks to build a dynamic ecosystem that promotes innovation, research, and sustainable growth in the marine industry while exploiting the benefits provided by the Port of Quebec’s location.

Following its strategic goal, the Port of Quebec aims to provide enterprises with some of Canada’s most vital infrastructures specialised in liquid and solid bulk. Furthermore, being the largest cruise port on the St. Lawrence, it provides great access to a UNESCO-listed historic city.

“This collaboration with Novarium is another step in our rapprochement with Quebec’s innovation ecosystem, following collaborations with other Quebec organizations. We are delighted to work with key players in Quebec to stimulate innovation, attract world-class talent and companies, and contribute to the sustainable growth of the blue economy in the Quebec region,” stated Mario Girard, CEO of the Port of Quebec.

The Port of Quebec is also a strategic port transshipment centre that promotes intermodality. This increased connectivity will open up new options for companies seeking to capitalise on the economic potential associated with the blue economy.

“Collaborating with the Port of Quebec is an excellent opportunity to develop a Quebec showcase of new technologies in the blue economy, which will be a sector of the future in the global economy. Quebec City is thus part of our strategy of creating home ports for the development of innovative companies all over the world, as we have started in Los Angeles and Portugal,” explained Amélie Desrochers, executive director, of Novarium.

Novarium and the Port of Quebec want to encourage research and development, foster innovation in the marine industry, and increase the region’s impact as a centre of economic excellence. This collaboration is ideally aligned with Quebec’s objective to take the lead in the transition to a more sustainable and responsible economy.

“The Port of Quebec represents a unique opportunity for blue economy businesses to develop and prosper. This collaboration will strengthen the culture of innovation by providing resources dedicated to innovation, as well as a dynamic city-port interface, adapted to a demanding winter environment. The Port of Quebec is a natural ally for the prototyping of solutions in the blue economy with which we have already contributed in open innovation and we are happy to continue this long-term collaboration,” said Martin Beaulieu, CEO of La Zone Bleue.
