Port of Oakland introduces zero-emission vehicles

The Port of Oakland collaborated with community partners to offer a Zero Emissions Truck Ride and Drive event, giving port workers personal experience with cutting-edge zero-emission vehicles.

On Friday, 15 September, the Californian port cooperated with the Harbor Trucking Association, CALSTART, California’s Hybrid and Zero-Emissions Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP), the California Air Resources Board (CARB), and PG&E to bring zero-emissions vehicles to life in Middle Harbor Shoreline Park.

The event gave port drayage drivers, motor carriers, and other port community members and stakeholders an overview of future technology by providing them with the opportunity to operate battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell trucks. They also had the opportunity to interact with experts about transitioning fleets to trucks powered by clean technology.

Attendees had the opportunity to explore the newest in zero-emissions truck technology, understand local charging and parking areas, financing alternatives and funding incentives, and CARB state drayage laws.

“This event provided port operators with the invaluable opportunity to experience new zero emissions technology firsthand,” stated Bryan Brandes, maritime director of Port of Oakland.
