The Port of Oakland has introduced a comprehensive suite of digital dashboards on its Oakland Portal website and mobile application, providing shippers, truckers, and community members enhanced insight into real-time port operations.
The dashboards encompass Dwell Time, Empty Return Instructions, and Ocean Carrier Services, designed to help businesses plan cargo movements more efficiently, reduce unnecessary trips, and improve supply chain reliability.
Port of Oakland Maritime Director Bryan Brandes, stated that understanding container residence time on docks, empty return locations and timing, and which ocean services call Oakland enables businesses to make informed decisions, avoid delays, and ultimately reduce costs.
The new dashboards include:
•Dwell Time. Displays average container residence time at the port from import unloading until truck departure, or from export arrival until ship loading.
•Empty Return Instructions. Provides truckers with real-time information regarding empty container return locations and timing, based on shipping line and terminal.
•Ocean Carrier Services Map. Shows ocean services calling at Oakland, including terminal usage, transit times, vessel sizes, and shipping alliances.
These new dashboards were developed using funding from the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development and builds upon the Port’s FITS initiative, launched in January 2024 with funding from the Alameda County Transportation Commission.
FITS represents a collaboration between Alameda CTC, Port staff, the City of Oakland, and the California Department of Transportation.
The Oakland Portal and mobile application operates on Parsons’ award-winning advanced traffic management software solution, iNET®.
