Port of Oakland ends 2025 with stable cargo volumes

The Port of Oakland handled 179,580 TEUs in December 2025, down 1.7% from last year, closing the year with stable overall volumes despite uneven global trade.

Full containers totaled 140,050 TEUs, down 3.0%. Loaded imports fell 12.8%, while exports rose 10.9%. Empty containers reached 39,530 TEUs, up 3.4%, reflecting year-end equipment repositioning.

For the full year, Oakland processed 2,253,976 TEUs, essentially flat (-0.4%) versus 2024. Imports fell 0.9%, exports rose 0.1%, maintaining a 50/50 split. Full containers represented roughly 77% of total volume.

Bryan Brandes, Maritime Director, said: “Amid uncertainty, stability matters. Our focus was on keeping cargo moving efficiently and predictably for customers.”
