Port of Oakland appoints new maritime marketing manager

The Port of Oakland has appointed Carolyn Almquist as its new maritime marketing manager, bringing with her extensive experience from the private sector in international trade.

Almquist joins the Port of Oakland following a 25-year tenure at American President Lines (APL), a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group. Throughout her career at APL, she progressed to executive leadership positions, including head of Cargo Flow (Americas), where she demonstrated her expertise in managing intricate global logistics within dynamic domestic and international landscapes.

“We are fortunate to have Carolyn Almquist join our maritime team. Her appointment is essential to our comprehensive strategy to reach new overseas markets,” stated Bryan Brandes, maritime director at Port of Oakland.

Furthermore, with a proven track record in capitalizing on foreign market opportunities and devising strategic market plans, Almquist’s appointment aligns with the Port’s objective to expand its maritime business portfolio.

Notably, in her role as senior director of Transpacific Export Trade, she played a pivotal role in APL’s attainment of top ocean carrier market share status at US West Coast ports.

Almquist holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business, Trade, and Commerce from the University of Washington’s Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies.

“I’m excited to be joining the Port of Oakland in this role. My goal is to use my expertise in promoting international trade at the Port of Oakland while maximizing our existing business potential,” stated Almquist.
