Port of Oakland appoints new Government Affairs Manager

The Port of Oakland has announced that Diego González will be the newly appointed Government Affairs Manager.

With eight years of experience as a Port Governmental Affairs Field Representative, González brings extensive knowledge in legislative advocacy and policy. Before this role, he held the position of Acting Manager for the past six months.

In his new role, he will spearhead the Californian port’s governmental advocacy strategies in collaboration with the advocacy team, trade organizations, and stakeholders.

“The Port is a major seaport gateway for California’s goods, as well as a hub for green technology innovation. I look forward to working with our team and our government leaders to ensure investments continue to further our commitment to zero-emissions operations while creating good-paying, local jobs for the region,” stated Diego González.

Before joining the Port of Oakland, González was part of former Assemblymember Rob Bonta’s team, where he engaged in various policy initiatives and stakeholder engagements. With over 12 years of involvement in the political and governmental affairs of the Oakland and East Bay region, he brings a wealth of experience.

Currently, González holds a position on the Board of the Alameda Chamber and Economic Alliance. He has also been a member of the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee and served as Vice-Chair of the California Democratic Party Chicano Latino Caucus.

“I have had the privilege to work with the industry’s top leaders here at the Port. Helping to ensure further investment in Oakland’s working waterfront and airport will be my goal for the coming years,” added González.
