The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that August 2025 was its airports’ busiest month, while cargo imports also surged.

Ridership on the PATH commuter rail increased 7% from August 2024, while the Port of New York and New Jersey reported its second-busiest August ever.

August 2025 represented the Port of New York and New Jersey’s second-busiest August ever as businesses continued importing more products due to global trade volatility.

The month’s 835,845 TEUs was just 0.9% below the monthly record established during the pandemic cargo surge in August 2022.

August 2025’s total represented a 5.7% increase from August 2024 and a 23 percent increase from August 2019. The Port of New York and New Jersey maintained its position as the second-busiest US port for loaded TEUs over the first eight months of the year.

From January through August, the port handled 6,047,395 total TEUs.

This represented a 4.1% increase from the same period of 2024 and was 21.1% above the first eight months of pre-pandemic 2019.
