The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) has received authorization from Fisheries and Oceans Canada for the Contrecœur expansion and the new container terminal construction. The approval, under the Fisheries Act and Species at Risk Act, covers impacts on fish and fish habitats, including underwater work and wharf construction.
“Receiving this authorization is the result of years of collaboration with Fisheries and Oceans Canada and reflects our commitment to meet environmental requirements,” said Julie Gascon, MPA President and CEO.
The authorization follows a 2021 environmental assessment and consultations with Indigenous communities. Site work begins in 2026, and the terminal is on track for commissioning in 2030.
