Port of Melbourne appoints new Chair

Port of Melbourne announced Debbie Goodin’s appointment as the new independent Chair of its Board of Directors, effective 1 March 2025.

With over 30 years of senior management experience in both the public and private sectors, Goodin is able to navigate complex business landscapes, with a strong focus on corporate governance and a commitment to environmental, social, and sustainability initiatives.

Goodin is a seasoned director and chair across private, public, government-owned, and not-for-profit organizations. She is expected to bring a strategic, long-term vision for infrastructure growth that aligns well with the Australian port goals.

“I am pleased to be joining Port of Melbourne as Chair. The Port is the essential infrastructure that has wide-reaching economic and community impacts as well as opportunities to positively impact the lives of Victorians and Australians. I am confident that, Port of Melbourne – working together with the government and other stakeholders – can enhance Victoria’s competitive position, promote economic prosperity, and support the liveability of Greater Melbourne,” stated Goodin.

As part of this transition, current Chair John Stanhope will step down on 28 February 2025. Stanhope, who has served as the Port’s inaugural Chair since 2016 when it entered into a 50-year lease with the Victorian Government, played a crucial role in guiding the Port’s successful transition to private leasing. His leadership was instrumental in establishing the Port’s initial strategic roadmap, addressing trade demand growth, and fostering positive outcomes for the community.
