Port of Los Angeles releases draft design for waterfront connection in San Pedro

The Port of Los Angeles has released a draft Waterfront Connectivity Plan for San Pedro, a long-term planning and visioning document outlining strategies to better connect Downtown San Pedro, surrounding neighbourhoods, and the larger region to the LA Waterfront and its many attractions, following extensive community and local stakeholder input.

SWA Group, a major landscape construction, planning, and urban design firm, is collaborating on the idea.

The draft plan will be presented by the port and SWA workers at the next meeting of the Los Angeles Board of Harbour Commissioners on 7 September.

An additional community input meeting is planned on 28 September to offer a more extensive presentation of plan aspects and to collect further comments and public feedback.

Both sessions will be conducted in the Board Hearing Room on the second floor of the Port of Los Angeles office facility at 425 South Palos Verdes Street in San Pedro.

“The Port of Los Angeles has made significant investments over the last two decades focused on deindustrializing the LA Waterfront and transforming it into a visitor and recreational destination,” stated port director of Waterfront and commercial real estate Mike Galvin.

He further added, “Community input has been a critical component throughout the process. As we release this draft Connectivity Plan, we encourage the public to continue to weigh in as we finalize its development.”
